Andre Custodio : An Identity

Musician as Artist
as long as i can remember, i found that most forms of mainstream commercial expression lacked humanity (vulnerability). as i become older, i see how important it is to remain as authentic and vulnerable in my sound/music as possible. my musical tastes range from classical to funk to white noise. although i'm rather picky about what i listen to, i make up for the snobishness in my range of listening. my playing, composing, and listening embrace all that i am influenced by.

when i studied trumpet in junior-high, i became rather disenheartened at the difficulty of the pressure of the lips against the mouthpiece (i couldn't handle it). i found that conga drumming was very much more of what i wanted out of music during that very important period in my life; so i became a conga player at age ten. since then, i have studied Afro-Cuban conga drumming, drum-kit, and timpani. My strength is in performing and composing pulse rather than pitch. i have been performing percussion for about nineteen years and composing for two.
